The Tall Bike Project Begins

Well, I have 2 frames now. Thanks to the embattled Bike Church. I found a frame just like the complete junker I had sitting in the garage. Now I need to connect them.

I've seen different designs that join the head tubes and then join a long steering tube inside. Joining the head tubes seems much wiser than just the steering tube.

I guess my first step is to figure out where to scrounge up some tubing and go from there. I did find some sites online like Nova Cycles, but I'll check out the local hardware store first.

Update: 11/11 I went to Hibberts and dug through their pipe scrap pile. I found some 1/2" black pipe that fits inside the steerer tube. I think that'll work. I also got a length of 1" green fletcher coated pipe which will work as a head tube extension. I was mildly annoyed that they charge full price for the scraps and round up on the length.

I found that when the head tubes are lined up, the bottom bracket doesn't hit right at the top of the seat tube. I think I can trim the trailing edge of the seat tube then perhaps add a wedge of pipe or some other shim to the front edge of the top bottom bracket. But the first step is to get the forks connected, so I can tell exactly where the frames will contact.
